A New Creation?

2 Corinthians 5:17
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.

The Bible clearly tells us that when we put our faith and trust in Jesus Christ to save us from our sins we are a new creation. We are not who we used to be. We are new.

I got this verse emailed to me this morning as Bible Gateway's verse of the day. It fits as today is New Year's Day and today is the start of a brand new year. People make resolutions to be "new". They may say they are going to work out more or eat healthier. The thing with resolutions is that they fade. I've tried for the past three or four years to read the Bible in a year starting on January 1st. I've even started again this year. By the time February comes by, I am back into my old habits and maybe not even reading the Bible at all.

But where am I going with this? Well, we mess up in life. No matter how hard you try to keep your resolutions for the whole year or try to stay from sin after you accept Christ, you're gonna slip. We all still have our sin nature even though God has forgiven us.

Today I slipped. I was an awful ambassador for Christ. And there are consequences. Lots and lots. But, Jesus tells us that even though we mess up, we are NEW! He died for us and forgave us. He died for me. He forgave me. I am new. I still mess up but I am new.

So when you mess up just remember that if you have invited Jesus to be the Lord and Savior of your life, He has forgiven you and you are a new creation. This knowledge helped me a lot today.
